The Purpose of GCCM
Dear Friends,
Daniel
refused the king’s food and prayed three times a day. Job made a covenant with his eyes, and the psalmists hid the Law
in their hearts, meditating on it before going to bed and starting the day, to
keep from sinning against God. Paul
disciplined his body, keeping it under control, so that he might not be
disqualified. These rather ordinary
worshipers achieved extraordinary accomplishments for God, because one of many
commonalities among them was a regimen of spiritual disciplines to cultivate
godliness.
Godliness
is a proper attitude and response toward God that doesn’t come naturally. If it did, then God wouldn’t have commanded
it of all believers, and Paul wouldn’t have told us to train ourselves for it
like an athlete trains for an Olympic event.
Rather, while all God’s true worshipers have been outfitted for
godliness, they must work hard to develop and cultivate it. For that, we need, like the saints of old, a
spiritual regimen.
GCCM
2009 examines the importance God’s Word places on our spiritual fitness. Dr. Don Whitney, this year’s keynote
speaker, will speak to the biblical means God has given to every
Christian for pursuing intimacy with and conformity to Christ.
As
always, time together with God’s people rallied around the Truth promises to be
profitable, encouraging, and worshipful.
Join us for such a time and learn how to train more efficiently, or for
the first time as the case may be, your God-given spiritual muscles. I look forward to seeing you again or
meeting you for the first time.
Soli Deo Gloria.
